I was recently explaining to someone how being an artist is a job. It’s not fingerpainting with hippies all day and doodling in a notebook. It is attempting to maintain a constant stream of creative energy. Artists are expected to create new and exciting things on a regular basis. Being original and creative can expend quite a bit of energy. Some are blessed with ideas abundant…so many so that they fill their little notebooks and sketchbooks daily with snippets of artistic epiphanies. Others struggle, slowly and steadily but , in the end, produce fantastic things. I seem to exist in the grey area between the two. It is a challenge for creative professionals to produce energetically and efficiently ALL THE TIME! I am looking for a reserve of energy, hidden deep within me, to give me that push I need to bring my sketchbook tidbits and dreamy imaginings to life.
